CISA ICS Advisory: Mitsubishi Electric GX Works3 and Motion Control Settings
Here’s what this advisory affects, and what to do about it.
Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a local attacker to successfully authenticate even with an invalid block password by executing the affected product and modify part of the executable module in memory, and thereby allows the attacker to view, tamper with, destroy, or delete control programs. The following versions of Mitsubishi Electric GX Works3 and Motion Control Settings are affected: Mitsubishi Electric GX Works3 vers:all/* (CVE-2026-15688)
CISA published an ICS advisory on September 17, 2026, warning that all versions of Mitsubishi Electric GX Works3 contain a vulnerability that could allow a local attacker to bypass block password protection.

Invalid block password authentication
The advisory states that successful exploitation of the flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-15688, could allow a local attacker who can execute the affected product to authenticate using an invalid block password. This is achieved by modifying part of the executable module in memory. The attacker could then view, tamper with, destroy, or delete control programs.

Affected products
The advisory names the following affected products:
- Mitsubishi Electric GX Works3 — all versions
- Mitsubishi Electric Motion Control Settings (versions not separately enumerated)
No other products or versions are listed. The advisory does not state whether the vulnerability has been exploited in the wild.
What to do
- Determine whether any instances of GX Works3 are present in your engineering workstations or development environments.
- Apply the update or mitigation measures provided by Mitsubishi Electric as soon as they become available.
- Restrict physical and logical access to engineering workstations running the affected software to authorized personnel only.
- Monitor Mitsubishi Electric’s official support channels for patch availability and additional guidance specific to this advisory.
- Where possible, avoid using block passwords as the sole protection mechanism for control programs until the underlying vulnerability is addressed.
Organisations operating industrial control systems should treat engineering and programming software as high-value targets and manage them with the same rigour applied to the controllers themselves.
